What to do in Sucre?
Tour the Plaza 25 de Mayo and the Historic Center
The heart of Sucre is surrounded by historic buildings, such as the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Casa de la Libertad (where Bolivia’s independence was signed) and the Government Palace. It is an ideal place to learn about the country’s history.
Visit the Casa de la Libertad
This museum is one of the most important sites in Bolivia, as this is where the declaration of independence was signed in 1825. It houses historical documents, portraits and objects from colonial times.
Explore the Cretaceous Park
Just 5 km from downtown, this park is famous for its impressive dinosaur footprints fossilized in a huge rock wall. It is a fascinating place to learn about the prehistoric era and admire life-size dinosaur replicas.
Climb to La Recoleta lookout

Excursion to the Seven Waterfalls
For nature lovers, about 8 km from Sucre are the Siete Cascadas, a set of natural pools ideal for swimming and relaxing in a peaceful environment.
Tips for visiting Sucre
- Climate: Sucre has a pleasant temperate climate all year round. It is recommended to wear comfortable clothes and a light jacket for the evenings.
- Moderate altitude: Unlike La Paz, Sucre is located at 2,800 meters above sea level, so adaptation to the altitude is easier.
- Transportation: The city is small and walkable, but cabs and buses are also available.
- Cultural events: If you visit in September, you can enjoy the independence celebration with parades and festivals.
How to get to Sucre?
By air. Alcantarí International Airport is about 30 km from the city and receives flights from La Paz, Santa Cruz and Cochabamba.
By land. There are daily buses from La Paz, Potosí and Santa Cruz. The route from Potosí takes approximately 3 hours.
