The classic Choquequirao hike is a great option for true adventure seekers, history buffs, and nature lovers.

You’ll get off the beaten track, away from other tourists, on the road less traveled, admiring stunning scenery, to reach a true archaeological gem. You can participate as a group or as a couple. The Choquequirao trek is another exciting hike along the Inca Trail. The little-known Choquequilao ruins are similar in architectural style and layout to the more famous Machu Picchu complex. However, because it can only be accessed on foot, far fewer people visit this amazing site. On this adventurous trek, you will travel to the ancient world, walk the Inca Trail, cross the Andean highlands with majestic glaciers, descend into deep canyons where condors fly, and pass through the rich biodiversity of the cloud forests. You will also see native animals such as the Andean condor, other smaller native birds, and native flora and fauna, including orchids and much more!

DAY 1

Cusco/ Cachora-Capuliyoc-Chiquisca

A day filled with beautiful nature and fresh Andean air

We start our exciting adventure early in the morning. We will pick you up at your hotel at 4:30 and take you to Cachora by private transport. Along the way, we will see the impressive Salkantay and Humantay glaciers. Upon arrival in Cachona, we will visit the town, stroll through its picturesque streets and enjoy its rich culture. We will enjoy a nutritious and delicious breakfast. We then headed to Capuliyoc(2890m/9482ft) to join the rest of the trekking group: the cook and the mule drivers who will help carry our belongings. After finishing the last details, we will hike through the Apurimac Canyon. We rest for about three hours until Chiquisca (1900 m), a beautiful little village filled with orchards. During the trip, we will be able to enjoy the stunning landscapes of the Apurimac Valley and admire the majestic flight of the condor and stunning views of two huge icebergs called Padreyoc and Qoriwayrachina. As we began to move deeper into the valley, the warm temperatures, rich vegetation and the rushing rhythm of the Apurímac River became increasingly evident. In a few hours we will arrive in the small tropical village of Chiquisca, a warm green camp in the middle of dry mountains, where we will have dinner and spend the night.

DAY 2

 Chiquisca/ Playa Rosalinas-Santa Rosa- Marampata

Admire the beautiful sunset over the Andean sky

After refueling with a delicious breakfast, we continue our journey and begin our hike. We climb a winding route to Marampata (2,900 meters/9,514 feet), where you can take spectacular photos of the gorge and surrounding snow-capped peaks. First we descend for an hour and fifteen minutes to the deepest point of the valley, Playa Rosalinas (1,500 meters/4,921 feet). We cross a footbridge and begin the most difficult part of the hike.

On the way, we will make a short stop in the small village of Santa Rosa (1970 m/6463 ft) where you will enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by our team to restore your energy. We continue climbing for about three hours until we reach the Marampata camp. In the afternoon, you will admire the spectacular surroundings and feel the energy of this impressive place near the Choquequirao Castle. In addition, you can take time to stretch your muscles and admire the beautiful sunset, whose soft orange glow illuminates the endless valleys and white glacier mountains. As the sky darkens, we will see a beautiful sunset accompanied by a sky full of thousands of stars, covering the landscape and vegetation around us. Then it was time for dinner and bedtime.

DAY 3

Marampata –Archaeological Complex Of Choquequirao-Marampata

Explore and discover the ancient wonders of Choquequirao

Start your day with a delicious breakfast that will give you energy. Then we will spend the day exploring every detail of this incredible Inca site located in the mountains and very close to the deepest canyon in the entire South American continent. You can already imagine the incredible landscape that surrounds this enormous Incan structure. We will visit the most impressive corners of this place, and our guide will share with you fascinating stories from the past and why it was built. Choquequilao (3,050 m/10,007 ft) is much larger than Machu Picchu, with plazas, temples and impressive platforms that will make you wonder: how could the Incas build such a structure on top of a mountain? You will enjoy a picnic lunch and have time to rest and recover. Don’t miss the famous white stone LLamas that adorn the platforms built into the hillside and facing the mountains that protect this area, known as Apu Qoriwayrachina. According to experts, on average only 40% of the entire site is visible, and in many ways Choquequirao remains a mystery. We are sure that in the years to come we will learn more about this amazing complex. At the end of the day we return to the Marampata camp (2900m/9514ft) and enjoy a delicious dinner. Then you can go to bed, reflect on the wonderful day you just had, and relax.

DAY 4

Marampata/ Santa Rosa-Playa Rosalinas-Chiquisca

Relax and enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds this magical land

After a delicious breakfast, we return from Choquequirao. Now we say goodbye to this unique place, so be sure to take one last look before you leave. First we have another chance to take photos of the Grand Canyon from Marampata, then we descend for two hours until we reach our lunch stop at Santa Rosa (2,970 meters/6,463 feet). Along the way we will have the opportunity to observe the great diversity of plants found on this part of the trail. After lunch, we continue to Playa Rosalinas for a refreshing swim in the icy waters of the Apurimac River in the middle of the canyon. Then we head to Chiquisca Camp (1900 m/6234 ft), located in the backyard of a local house. Use this time to make new friends and learn about the Andean way of life, such as their customs and traditions. You will be able to take a closer look at the deep relationship between Andean communities and Pachamama, or as you know it, Mother Nature. After a delicious dinner, you can enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep in our comfortable campsite and reflect on your trip so far.

DAY 5

Chiquisca/Capuliyoc-Saywite Monolith-Conoc Hot Springs -Cusco

Relax in the hot springs before returning to Cusco

Today, listening to the roaring river, we will enjoy the last breakfast of our epic adventure. After that, we left as early as possible so that the sun would not interfere with our trek, which can be very difficult at high altitudes. Take a deep breath and feel the energy of nature as you embark on a 4-hour hike to Capuliyoc. Once there, we will say goodbye to the hiking group and take a private transfer to see the famous Servetus Boulder, a huge rock with over 200 geometric and animal figures. You will discover that this place was a center of Inca religious worship, which centered on water and was very important to their culture. After learning all the history of this place, we continue to Konok Hot Springs to relax in the hot waters. After a refreshing swim in these refreshing pools, our lunch is ready and we drive back to the city of Cusco.

Take this last opportunity to observe the massive glacial mountains that will embrace you with pure love during your journey and safely carry you to every destination along the way. Your body may be very exhausted, but the joy and satisfaction your soul feels is unparalleled. We arrive in Cusco city at approximately 6:00 PM We will drop you off at your doorstep so you can finally rest.
