The official currency of Peru is the Peruvian Sol (PEN).
Most hotels, large retailers, and tourist attractions accept credit cards, but usually charge a fee (around 7%). Cash is required for purchases from street vendors, family restaurants, and market vendors.
Most Peruvian cities and tourist areas have ATMs. ATMs are not as common in rural areas and small villages, so when traveling outside of a big city, make sure you have enough cash to pay for your purchases!
